Re: "Ghosts of the Great Highway" to be reissued with bonus EP

Yeah,I got mine today.

Reviews of the second disc:

Somewhere (1)Fingerpicking + Strings= sexy.Nice, full sounding version of the song, and much better then the other version on the bonus disc.

Somewhere (2)- Seems unneeded since the first version is the better of the two,and is simply better in all aspects then this version.

Carry Me Ohio- Alot like the version on Little Drummer Boy Live, but not as good, imho. Not as clear, and it seems a bit more rushed.

Gentle Moon- Nice, clear version of the song that sounds alot like the version on the GOTGH vinyl.Seems a bit clearer then that version, but not quite as warm.I think I prefer this version, though.

Arrival- Sounds like the Vanilla Sky version of Have you forgotten? combined with Si,Paloma.Nice short instrumental, but nothing spectacular.

Salvador Sanchez- My pick for the best track on the bonus disc.Very lush, full, clear version of the song, that sounds alot like a version he played live on KEXP,and Little Drummer Boy Live, only with more punch.

yeah, sorry. They are digipacks. They are thicker, along the lines of the little drummer boy digipack.

I think i'm with the majority, and basically feel that if you don't have GOTGH,get the reissue, but if you already have it,just buy the second disc as mp3's off itunes.

Re: "Ghosts of the Great Highway" to be reissued with bonus EP

I really like both versions of Somewhere, esp with the strings (quite different to Tom Waits' version) and just to be obtuse I've gotta say that my favourite track is the version of Carry Me Ohio- I like the speeded up version a lot. Here's to the next CV release to go on his CV- originals all I hope.

for those that haven't heard it yet, Sun Kil Moon's official MySpace page has "The Arrival" and the acoustic "Salvador Sanchez" up.

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but Pitchfork weighed in on this today:

Re: "Ghosts of the Great Highway" to be reissued with bonus EP

first time around it was an 8.3, and now 8.0?  wouldn't the addition of a bonus disc improve the score?

lol @ pitchfork in general though.

Re: "Ghosts of the Great Highway" to be reissued with bonus EP

Not if you think the bonus disc sucked, as they clearly did. Also, Pitchfork's rating system is so absurdly arbitrary. I like Trail of Dead, but Source Tags and Codes was a 10? Really?

My thing with them is that because they are pretty comprehensive, I read their reviews and see how they describe a band's style, and download if it sounds interesting. I couldn't care less whether they actually like it or not.

well I agree with the 10 on Source Tags and Codes, but it's one of the few albums that I do agree with them on. :)
