Drawing Of Threes Lyrics

DIANA

Watching Jaws with my girlfriend

Watching her drift off to sleep

I’m staying up, just killing time

Can’t shake it off, this weight on my mind

Friendships come and friendships go

And some that I’ve gathered I’d rather not know

Gone, gone the blanches

Gone, gone, gone, Diana

Cargo ships moving so slow

Passed Angel Island, and Embarcadero

And under the bridge, where many a young man

Sung his last words to the hills broken paths

And I’m staying up to the breaking of dawn

Til morning fog spills over mountains up above

Gone, gone the blanches

Gone, gone, gone, Diana

    MERCY

Hey man, didn’t mean to keep it from you

Hey man, didn’t mean to bring things down

Hey friend, didn’t mean to take her from you

Hey friend, didn’t mean to cause any hurt

Hey girl, didn’t mean to go off flying

Hey girl, didn’t mean to make you cry

Hey love, didn’t mean to cause your worry

Hey love, didn’t mean to keep you up

Out here in the city, lights are bright

Out here in the city, I get in fights

Up here in the buildings, things pulling at me

Up here in the buildings, way too tight

Hey kids, didn’t mean to skip a summer

Hey kids, didn’t mean to spend no time

Hey son, didn’t mean to go off playing

Hey son, had a lotta work to do

Hey dear, quite a little trail your leaving

Hey dear, quite a long path your on

Hey bird, quite a big nest you’re building

Hey bird, quite a lotta time you’ve spent

Out here in the mountains all is quiet

Up here in the mountains, no more fights

Out here in the meadows trees are growing

Out here in the river throwing stones

Oh god, have mercy on me

    Oh god, have mercy please

Oh branch, why’d you have to come down on me

Oh axe, why’d you have to fall so hard

Oh gun, why’d you have to pull the trigger

Oh blade, why’d you have to cut so deep

Out here on the highway, things rolling by

Out here on the highway, why oh why

Out here in the old home, cries and moans

Out here in the grave stones, dirt and bones

Oh god, have mercy on me

    Oh god, have mercy please

    TURTLE POND

Little darling, why are you slow walking, why are you slow walking

Arturo, why aren’t you fighting, why aren’t you fighting

Caroline, where are you going, where are you going

American river why aren’t you flowing, why aren’t you flowing

    Four, three, two, one

    Four, three, two, one

Merry-go-round, why aren’t you spinning, why aren’t you spinning

Little kids, why aren’t you playing, why aren’t you playing

Telephone, why aren’t you calling, why aren’t you calling

    Four, three, two, one

    Four, three, two, one

Turtle Pond, why you still frozen, why you still frozen

Lavender, where is your purple, where is your purple

Rosemary, why aren’t you fragrant, why aren’t you fragrant

    Four, three, two, one

    Four, three, two, one

    RANDY QUAID

    Summertime, June, July

    Ocean line, baby crying

    Out of words, Angry Birds

    iPod Touch, double-dutch

    Lemon, lime, mid July

    No fish lying, baby crying

Play a song, a Zeppelin song

Lemon Song, Wanton Song, Immigrant Song

So, I’ll go as you say

    Hey, go as you say

And as she weeps, she cannot sleep

My words cut deep, pleading she’ll

Make a wish, shark fin swish

    Monster fish, catfish dish

    English, math, second draft

    Lonely path, woman’s wrath

    Feeling sick, aching hip

    Shoulder chipped, last one picked

So, I’ll go as you say

    Hey, go as you say

San Francisco Bay is pouring rain

    East Bay grey, movie day

    Spalding Grey, Brothers Quay

    Dennis and Randy Quaid

    Summertime, stormy sky

    Trapped inside, my baby crying

    Same old crush, broken clutch

    Won’t miss my company much

    VERNON FORREST

Vernon Forrest, lost his life on the street

    Face down, black top

    Gun in his belt

    Baby nephew crying for help

    Uncle Vernon, Vernon, Vernon

    Uncle Vernon, Vernon, Vernon

Vernon Forrest, knew his place in the ring

Took out Mosley, then he was king

Had his number, number two times

    Georgia, Georgia, Georgia boy

    Uncle Vernon, Vernon Forrest

    Uncle Vernon, Vernon Forrest

    MOLLE

    Walking around downtown Lisbon

Just arrived and feel my head spin

Open my lungs, breathe the sea air

Open my door, am I welcome

    Where are you, Monica

In the witching hills of Sintra

    Driving in downtown Malmo

Icy river capped in white snow

    Mid December, candle light glow

    Lying down, back is hurting

Tried your number, it’s not working

    Where are you, Anneka

Off in the seaside night of Molle

Thanks. I always thought he was singing black ship on Diana.

It could be! For an album with relatively few words there was a lot of guesswork involved.

Actually - now I'm hearing him sing something like "gone, gone the blank sh..." or "blank ch...", could it be blank check?

Maybe his gf is hogging the blanket?

Ha! I reckon if anyone's doing the hogging it's Koz.

  • The man's a genius. I'm crap at catching lyrics so again, really appreciate your post.
Desertshore, with and without Koz, are surely the best band on the planet.
And this album surely the best Koz since GOTH, or SFABG even. Along with the 2 RHP-type songs on MK&D. Under-appreciated, it seems.....

Thanks @MentalProblems, I totally agree - Desertshore are fantastic! I love their instrumental albums and the stuff with Koz is awesome. Have you heard the Chris Connolly record? Well worth investigating.

  • When scoring MoG, checked the CC clips, thought I could skip it. Would have to hear it first, somehow.......gotta say this though. The clip they had for DYM, that 3rd? tk., prevented me buying it for 4 years! I just thought bah, bland, dull. They or CV/? did a major disservice there I think. Both albums are waaaaaay better and interesting than that.
Maybe the clips don't give a good enough indication of CC's lp then?
